I honest...I'd agree with both sentiments, yeah. I honestly thought this *was* a more recent album when I first played it, quite surprised by the 2003 release.

To that first point, glitch was becoming rather trendy in indie circles around the time since Pitchfork had been giving Kid606 a pile of praise (not to mention Radiohead name-dropping Aphex Twin as an influence for Kid A), but I don't recall much cross-pollination between the two scenes, especially to this extent. Harsh glitch is almost incompatible with shoegaze rock, for the simple fact the former's brash, chaotic noise utterly wrecks the latter's dreamy vibe. Heck, even Sweet Trip seems to have realized that, most of their glitch stuff parceled away from the shoegaze stuff within most songs. I can understand why some would think even *attempting* it is grounds for genius, but listening to this, it just sounds like Sweet Trip wrote some regular tunes, then added a tonne of effects in post-production because they had the plugins available, not because they made musical sense within the context of the songs. That's just my interpretation though.

Still, someone had to be among the first, but as the tools of the glitch trade became more user-friendly, it's no surprise others would catch up and refine what was attempted here.Sykoneehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06327331590042723390noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2634864082514183828.post-6256685827328103812018-10-04T00:10:39.733-07:002018-10-04T00:10:39.733-07:00lol thanks Sykonee for doing this on such a short ...lol thanks Sykonee for doing this on such a short notice. Maybe you would be more well disposed to it if you were given more time ;)

In any case, two questions on this album:

1. For indie worshipers of this album (many of whom herald this as an undiscovered "masterpiece"), they claim the sound is "advanced" for its time (2003), as no other acts dared to smash genres as this album did. Since you undoubtedly listened to a fair amount of early 2000's EDM, would you agree with that sentiment?

2. From more sober listeners of the album, some have wrote this album anticipated the musical fashions of the 2010's indie scene, hence this album 's sonic palette belongs more in this decade than in the 2000's. Thoughts on that?

Best,
PhiloiAnonymousnoreply@blogger.com
