This is a blog about (mostly) electronic music that I have in my own collection. I'm on a mission to listen through each CD I own in alphabetical order, per Album Title, and write a review about it. As I listen to these during my urban commutes, I roughly average a CD per day, from which I'll post a review shortly after. I do some cursory research on these releases (Wiki, Discogs, etc.), but that's about it. Don't come here expecting highly-detailed analysis or lengthy essays. I've neither the time nor the interest in writing such reviews. There's enough of those already on the internet, and I'm not about to clutter the medium more than it already is.
WHY ARE YOU DOING SUCH A THING?
The 'Shuffle' feature on my portable player was boring me.
SO WHY BLOG ABOUT IT?
There's blogs about every damn thing under the sun (and beyond!), so why not this? It also helps keep my writing skills sharp while this project consumes my life.
THAT'S IT, THEN?
Okay, I'm also writing the sort of reviews I'd love to read myself, but haven't come across in my internet wanderings. Someone's gotta' fill this void, whatever this void may be.
DO YOU DO SCORES?
No. My words are enough of a gauge in how good or bad a record is. Besides, as I'm reviewing music from my own collection, scores would be absurdly biased and skewed.
WHY THE WORD COUNT LIMIT?
It's good practice, plus it makes for easy reading. And no, I won't reveal what that limit is. If you're that curious, you can count the words yourself. ;)
DO YOU REVIEW OTHER FORMATS THAN CD?
Some digital-only releases, yes, though I generally eschew the format in favor of the physical. That said, I don't collect vinyl, because having a CD-buying habit is expensive enough.
IS YOUR MUSIC COLLECTION ALL ELECTRONIC?
If you include hip-hop (and you should), probably about 80% is electronic music. It's not that I dislike rock, folk, country, jazz, classical, spoken word, stick-n-stones, or zydeco, but I gotta' prioritize my passions.
CAN I REQUEST A REVIEW?
You sure can! There are three methods of doing this:
1. Simply ask whether I might review something. Can't guarantee I will though.
2. Send me something to review, whether a digital release or a CD via snail-mail. Only items with a Discogs entry will be considered, however (no demo or promos).
3. Donate to my Patreon. Click here for more details on this method.
WHAT ARE 'SPORTSING' SURVEYS?
I've recenty gotten into 'sportsing' to maintain my physical health, and use it as an opportunity to listen through discographies of artists I haven't covered much (if at all). I have a few rules for doing these:
1. Has to have at least 10 albums that I haven't reviewed yet in their discographies.
2. Remix albums, live albums, and compilations of non-album material can count towards this total.
3. I'll rank the discography compared to within that artist's catalogue at the end, including the albums I've written proper reviews of elsewhere.
4. Posts for these ongoing surveys can be found on myTwitter Mastodon account, so if you want to follow along, you can check them out there.
WHAT'S 'TRANCECRITIC'?
TranceCritic was a website I once wrote for (and senior edit, I suppose). It lasted five years, and had some minor success, but has long been defunct now. I've uploaded most of those early efforts as a testament to the growing pains of learning how to writes gooder.
WHAT WILL HAPPEN WHEN YOU FINISH REVIEWING YOUR ENTIRE MUSIC COLLECTION?
The end of all things.
YOU KNOW ISHKUR?
Know him? Shit, cracker owes me 15 bux.
